C*STAR is a spin-off company of the University of Cape Town with the expressed mission to commercialize bespoke process developments in the field of Power-to-Liquids (PtL). The PtL process envelope encompasses the conversion of captured carbon dioxide (CO2) and green H2 into sustainable hydrocarbon fuels such as petrol, diesel and kerosene.
Director
Michael Claeys has over 30 years of experience in developing novel catalytic materials and processes for the conversion of synthesis gas. Through his close collaborations with international industrial partners.
Director
Nico Fischer has worked both in academia and the private sector on the development of novel heterogeneous catalysts and catalytic processes. His work, focuses on increasing the sustainability of chemical conversions with a special focus on CO2 activations.
The C*STAR team is globally recognized for its excellence and experience in the development of novel catalysts and catalytic processes within and beyond the Power-to-X process envelope. We further provide customer specific contract research and consulting services including process intensification, design and analysis.
Our vision is the establishment of a global renewable energy trade, transporting renewable energy via sustainably synthesized chemical energy vectors. A global trade based on a diversification of suppliers creating new wealth and empowerment at the point of generation driving a just energy transition.
Our mission is to develop and deploy a Power-to-Liquids (PtL) technology which converts captured CO2 and green H2 to liquid hydrocarbon based fuels to support the establishment of the global renewable energy trade while building new industry and employment at the point of generation.
With over 30 years of experience developing novel catalysts and catalytic processes C*STAR provides proprietary solutions to convert carbon dioxide and green hydrogen into hydrocarbon fuels.
